Armidale City Heritage Tour
Join Armidale’s Heritage Tour, a leisurely 2 ½ hour guided tour leaving from the Visitor centre. Volunteer guides will give you a historical background of our city and will point out all the heritage buildings, cultural places, special gardens, schools and the university. The tour is complimentary - donations are welcome. Bookings are recommended - phone 6772 4655.

 

Armidale City Heritage Walk
Discover Armidale’s heritage by walking around our beautiful city. Information on self-guided walks is available from the Visitor Information Centre. Whilst strolling leisurely on the heritage walk you will discover our magnificent cathedrals, churches and other significant heritage buildings.

 

Saumarez Homestead National Trust property
Guided tours through the homestead are available daily between September and mid June. The homestead closes for winter from mid June to the end of August each year. Self guided tours of the farm and gardens are available during opening hours. Call into the Visitor Information Centre for tour times and brochure. National Trust shop and tearoom are on site. Booloominbah
Booloominbah was built between 1886 - 1888. It is a magnificent former gentleman’s residence in the fashionable English style, designed by Horbury Hunt and surrounded by beautiful grounds. Today it houses the principal administration offices and meeting rooms of the University of New England. The grounds of Booloominbah are the site of all UNE Graduation ceremonies.

Aboriginal Cultural Centre & Keeping Place
Discover local Aboriginal culture. View paintings and sculptures. Browse through the souvenir shop with Koori artworks. Located in Kentucky Street, Armidale. Open Monday to Friday 9am – 4pm. Saturday and Sunday open on request. Phone 02 6771 3606.

 

University of New England Archives & Heritage Centre
Newling Campus, corner Dangar & Kentucky Streets. Great for students, local and family historians, there is a vast collection of primary and secondary material. Open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm. Phone 02 6773 6555

 

Dangars Gorge
Home to the beautiful 120m Dangars Falls and the starting point for several great walks. Located 21kms southeast of Armidale along the Dangarsleigh Road, Dangars Gorge is part of the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park. It is a great place for picnics, camping, and bushwalking.

Wollomombi Gorge
A magnificent gorge that houses two waterfalls, the Wollomombi Falls, one of Australia’s highest falls at 260m, and the Chandler Falls. A great opportunity to enjoy spectacular scenery, a picnic, a stroll along one of the gorge rim trails or hikes to the gorge riverbed. Facilities include drinking water, pit toilets, shelter shed, fireplace and bush camping available for overnight stays. Location: 40km east of Armidale on the Waterfall Way.

Gara Gorge
Gara Gorge is located 16kms from Armidale along the Castledoyle Road. Gara Gorge is a popular picnic and barbecue spot. It is also the site of Australia’s first commercial Hydroelectric Scheme. The remains of this historic hydro scheme can be seen today, via the Threlfall Historic Walk. No camping is permitted at Gara Gorge.

 

Ebor Falls
Ebor Falls are a spectacular two-tier falls, located in the Guy Fawkes National Park, 80kms east of Armidale along the Waterfall Way. Ebor Falls are where the Guy Fawkes River takes its first spectacular plunge off the tablelands. The falls continue to flow, even in dry periods. Facilities include picnic tables, pit toilets, barbecues, information display and lookout platforms with easy access.
